School districts may designate teachers or administrators as voluntary "school protection officers" who are authorized to carry concealed firearms or self-defense spray devices on school property after completing approved training and obtaining a valid concealed carry permit

Schools with armed staff must post a notice stating "Staff at this campus are armed and trained to meet threats to student safety with deadly force if necessary"; districts without armed staff must notify parents by November 1st each school year

School protection officers may detain individuals for up to one hour using the same authority as any person under Missouri's use of force laws, and must immediately notify administrators and law enforcement

School districts and charter schools must disclose to prospective employers any violations by former employees involving abusive behavior toward students, and must contact previous employers before hiring former school employees

Records of employee violations related to abusive behavior toward students are exempted from closed records protections under the Sunshine Law, though student-identifying information remains closed
