Established political parties in Missouri may adopt a closed primary system through their state political party committee, limiting primary voting to registered party members only

Parties must notify the Secretary of State at least 6 months before election day and provide registered member lists at least 6 weeks before the election

The state pays screening costs for closed primaries if properly requested, but the provision becomes void if no appropriation is made

Parties may rescind their closed primary decision up to 6 weeks before election day

If a party fails to meet procedural requirements or the state doesn't appropriate funds, the party may pay costs directly to local election authorities, but must fund all partisan offices statewide
