Removes the current requirement that sheriff candidates hold a valid peace officer license pursuant to chapter 590 at the time of filing for office

Requires sheriff candidates to have at least five years of law enforcement employment at the city, county, state, or federal level

Recognizes law enforcement employment within Department of Defense agencies as qualifying experience

Exempts first classification charter counties with populations over 900,000 and cities not within a county from the five-year law enforcement experience requirement
