Municipalities may authorize golf cart and motorized wheelchair operation on streets with posted speed limits up to 25 mph by default, or higher if specifically authorized by local ordinance

Golf carts operating on city streets must be equipped with 15 safety features including headlamps, tail lamps, turn signals, mirrors, safety belts on front and rear seats, windshield, horn, and a permanently affixed manufacturer's identification number

Golf carts cannot operate on state or federal highways except to cross at intersections where the posted speed limit is 45 mph or less

Operators must have a valid driver's license and carry insurance under chapter 303; golf carts are exempt from vehicle registration requirements

Definition of "golf cart" updated to include vehicles not capable of exceeding 25 mph (increased from 20 mph)
