Political subdivisions must approve or deny building permit applications within 30 calendar days; failure to respond results in automatic approval

Applies to permits for new residential, commercial, or industrial construction, as well as repairs or renovations to existing buildings

Denials must be provided in writing with specific reasons, including citation to violated code provisions or detailed explanation if rejecting work stamped by a certified design professional

Incomplete applications may be denied within 20 calendar days, with applicants given 10 days to resubmit; subsequent denials cannot cite new incompleteness reasons not listed in the initial denial

Political subdivisions cannot add new requirements after approval or include additional unrelated denial reasons in subsequent reviews of resubmitted applications
