Effective October 1, 2026, the mayor of St. Louis shall appoint one member to the Police Retirement System board for a one-year term and one for a two-year term, with all subsequent appointees serving two-year terms; appointees continue serving until successors are appointed.

Three elected trustee positions are restricted to actively commissioned officers of the municipal police force of any city not within a county, elected only by those active officers who are members of the retirement system.

Retired member trustee positions are now elected specifically by retired members of the system, rather than by all members.

Public pension systems are prohibited from using system funds to advocate for or against ballot measures or candidates, though systems may still educate members about potential impacts through regular programs.

Retirement system boards may recover overpayments through single sum or installment repayments until fully recovered, with a 10-year window to correct errors (except in fraud cases, which have no time limit).
