All firearm sales or transfers in Missouri, including online transactions, must go through a federally licensed dealer who conducts a background check under 18 U.S.C. Section 922(t)

Licensed dealers may charge fees up to $35 for single firearm transfers and $50 for multiple firearm transfers to cover administrative costs

Exemptions apply to law enforcement officers acting in official capacity, military personnel, gunsmiths for repairs, common carriers, and transfers to relatives within the first degree of consanguinity or affinity (parents, children, spouses)

Trustees, executors, and estate administrators must use a licensed dealer when transferring firearms to heirs; if the transfer is prohibited, the heir may designate another recipient, sell to a dealer, or have the dealer sell on their behalf

Violations constitute a class B misdemeanor, with each day of violation treated as a separate offense; violations by licensed dealers must be reported to the attorney general and then to the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
