Expands the categories of local government employees eligible for public safety personnel retirement benefits to include road crew workers and lineworkers, in addition to telecommunicator first responders, jailors, and emergency medical service personnel

Political subdivisions may elect by majority vote of their governing body to classify these workers as public safety personnel, allowing them to qualify for a lower minimum retirement age

Once a political subdivision makes this election, it cannot be changed and applies to all past and future employment for current and future employees in those positions

Employer contribution rates to the retirement system will increase correspondingly when a political subdivision makes this election

The standard cap on employer contribution increases under section 70.730 does not apply to contribution increases resulting from this election
