Beginning in the 2027-28 school year, school districts must provide at least two hours of mandatory in-service suicide prevention training for all licensed educators, upgrading from the current voluntary training option

Starting in the 2028-29 school year, suicide prevention training must cover risk and protective factors, warning signs, response procedures, and postvention support (organized response following a suicide to facilitate healing and prevent additional suicides)

Extends mental health awareness instruction to middle school students (grades 5-8) beginning in the 2027-28 school year, in addition to the existing high school requirement

Delays the requirement for student ID cards to include the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline number from July 1, 2025 to July 1, 2027, and removes the requirement to include the local police non-emergency number

Requires school districts to update their youth suicide awareness and prevention policies by 2028-29 to include training on risk factors, warning signs, response procedures, and postvention support
