Elected officials convicted of stealing campaign funds, stealing caucus/association funds, improperly expending campaign funds, or converting campaign funds to personal use are deemed unfit for public office and must be removed

Officials or employees who knowingly appoint or retain someone deemed unfit under these provisions must forfeit their own office

Prosecuting attorneys, circuit attorneys, or the attorney general must commence removal actions against officials or employees declared unfit due to these convictions

Retirement plan participants convicted of qualifying felonies (stealing $5,000+, forgery, counterfeiting, bribery, acceding to corruption) committed in connection with their duties forfeit retirement benefits for service after August 28, 2014

Employers must notify retirement systems when participants are charged or convicted of qualifying offenses, and those declared unfit for public office under the new campaign fund provisions also lose retirement benefits
