Spousal maintenance orders automatically terminate when the paying spouse reaches full retirement age under Social Security, unless both parties agree otherwise

"Full retirement age" is defined as when the payor becomes eligible for or begins receiving full Social Security retirement benefits, explicitly excluding early retirement age

Payors must provide reasonable advance notice of retirement to the receiving spouse, with six months notice presumed reasonable

Courts must specify whether maintenance orders are modifiable or nonmodifiable, and may include termination dates

Modifiable orders with termination dates can be adjusted based on substantial and continuing changes in circumstances occurring before the original termination date
