Health carriers must provide coverage for treatment of obesity and severe obesity in persons ages 2-20, effective January 1, 2027

Required coverage includes intensive health behavior and lifestyle treatment, pharmacotherapy (medications), and metabolic and bariatric surgery

Treatments must follow Clinical Practice Guidelines on Obesity from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Pediatric Committee

Obesity treatment services cannot be subject to higher deductibles or co-payments than other health care services under the same plan

Exemptions apply to supplemental policies including life care contracts, accident-only policies, specified disease policies, Medicare supplements, long-term care policies, and short-term medical policies of six months or less
