Beginning January 1, 2027, the Governor must appoint one nonvoting student representative to the Coordinating Board for Higher Education, with Senate consent

The student representative serves a two-year term and must be a U.S. citizen, Missouri resident, full-time student, and current or former student body president or student representative to their institution's governing board

Candidates are nominated by approved public institutions, with appointments rotating among institutions so no individual from the same school can serve until at least three subsequent appointments and three years have passed

The position becomes vacant if the student ceases full-time enrollment (except for graduation after completing one year), loses Missouri residency, or fails to follow the board's attendance policy

The student representative receives reimbursement for actual expenses while attending board meetings and must have paid all tuition and student fees
