The Sheriff of the City of St. Louis would be appointed by a majority of circuit judges and associate circuit judges of the twenty-second judicial circuit, rather than being elected

The current elected sheriff holding office on August 28, 2026, would continue serving for the remainder of their term

The sheriff may be removed for cause by a majority of the circuit judges, following Missouri Supreme Court administrative rules governing court personnel

Any vacancy occurring during the current elected sheriff's term would be filled by judicial appointment rather than through the process in section 57.080

The sheriff and sworn deputies would be eligible for peace officer training and licensure under chapter 590, with the office considered a law enforcement agency
