Counties housing state prisoners due to lack of capacity at state institutions shall not be liable for medical costs exceeding Mississippi Medicaid reimbursement rates or Department of Corrections reimbursement rates, whichever is greater.

Medical cost limitation applies to all medical care services, durable and nondurable goods, and prescription drugs for pretrial detainees and convicted prisoners.

Department of Corrections shall reimburse counties for food and housing at actual cost or contract price, not to exceed $20.00 per day per offender.

Commissioner of the Department of Corrections is authorized to amend, extend, and renew lease agreements and inmate housing agreements with private correctional facilities for periods up to 10 years.
