Jackson County Board of Supervisors may establish a pilot program authorizing the sheriff's department to use radar speed detection equipment to enforce speed limits on county roads outside incorporated municipalities.

Board may purchase or acquire up to 20 radar speed detection devices using available county funds.

Pilot program consists of two 12-month periods: July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011 (initial period) and July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012 (second period).

Sheriff must report to the Board of Supervisors at the end of the initial period comparing speeding citations issued with and without radar, serious injuries and fatal crashes for both years, and felony arrests resulting from radar-assisted traffic stops.

Authority to use radar speed detection equipment automatically repeals on July 1, 2012, unless extended by subsequent legislation.
