Revises the definition of "base period" for unemployment benefits in Section 71-5-11 of Mississippi Code to include an "alternate base period" option.

Allows individuals who cannot qualify monetarily for a claim using the standard base period (first four of the last five completed calendar quarters) to use an "alternate base period" (the last four completed calendar quarters immediately preceding their benefit year).

Requires the Department of Employment Security to obtain wage information from employers for the last completed calendar quarter if such information has not been reported or is unavailable at the time of initial application.

Becomes effective July 1, 2010.
