House Bill 487 Summary

• Amends six sections of Mississippi Code (87-1-5, 97-33-1, 97-33-7, 97-33-17, 97-33-25, and 97-33-27) to modify gaming regulations for Harrison County structures.

• Fixes the reference point for gaming location boundaries in Harrison County to U.S. Highway 90's position as it existed on August 28, 2005, preventing future highway relocations from affecting gaming area eligibility.

• Applies this August 28, 2005 baseline to all distance measurements and rights-of-way boundaries used to determine where licensed gaming activities may be conducted in shore structures.

• Maintains existing 800-foot distance requirement from mean high-water line or the southern boundary of U.S. Highway 90's right-of-way (whichever is greater) as the allowable gaming area in Harrison County.

• Takes effect July 1, 2010.
