Commends Mrs. Vashti Underwood Muse for 50 years of dedicated service to education in Mississippi, particularly her work with at-risk and educationally disadvantaged students.

Recognizes her career as a public elementary school teacher from 1961 to 1978 in Starkville and Meridian, where she was an early innovator in basic reading programs.

Acknowledges her service as a Hinds Community College reading faculty member since 1980 and her leadership roles as President of the Mississippi Association for Developmental Education (1988-1989) and President of the National Association for Developmental Education (1991-1992).

Notes her numerous awards and recognitions including the 1999 NADE Award for Outstanding Service, CASE Professor of the Year (1994), ACCT William H. Meardy Faculty Member Award (1996), and the 2007 Red Rose Award from Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

Directs that copies of the resolution be furnished to Mrs. Muse and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
