SB 2008 Summary

• Authorizes issuance of distinctive motor vehicle license tags for supporters of 35+ organizations including schools, athletic foundations, charities, and civic groups, effective July 1, 2010

• Establishes $30.00 additional annual fee for most distinctive tags ($50.00 for Mississippi College School of Law), with $2.00 retained by county tax collectors and remainder distributed to designated beneficiaries and state funds

• Distributes fees as follows: majority to named organizations/beneficiaries, $1.00 to Mississippi Burn Care Fund, $2.00 to State Highway Fund, and $1.00 to special fund under Section 27-19-44.2

• Amends existing sections to modify distribution of fees from University of Alabama tags (to Friends of Children's Hospital) and University of South Alabama tags (to Mississippi Trauma Care Systems Fund), and extends university tag deadline to July 1, 2013

• Removes county designation requirement from all distinctive motor vehicle license tags authorized or renewed after July 1, 2010
