MS SB2882

Requires all students in Mississippi public schools to stand when a teacher or administrator enters a classroom and remain standing until instructed to be seated, beginning with the 2010-2011 school year.

Mandates students use respectful forms of address when speaking with teachers or administrators on school property or at school-sponsored events, including "Yes/No, Ma'am/Sir" or "Yes/No, Miss/Mrs./Ms./Mr. (Surname)."

Directs city and county school boards to incorporate these conduct requirements into existing discipline policies or codes of conduct for their school systems.

Requires school boards to take appropriate disciplinary action against students who fail to comply with the standing and respectful address requirements.

Takes effect July 1, 2010.
