Residents aged 65 and older fishing in Mississippi marine waters must obtain a lifetime saltwater sports fishing license for a one-time fee of $5.00.

The lifetime license is valid in all waters south of Interstate 10 and replaces the requirement for residents aged 16-65 to purchase annual $10.00 licenses.

Nonresidents aged 65 and older are exempt from the $20.00 minimum fee requirement for saltwater sports fishing licenses, and the commission may negotiate reciprocal agreements with adjacent states.

Fees collected from saltwater sports fishing license sales are deposited into the Seafood Fund for marine resource management.

The act takes effect July 1, 2010.
