Senate Bill 2928 Summary

• Transfers all law enforcement personnel, equipment, inventory, and resources from the Mississippi Department of Transportation to the Motor Carrier Division of the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol within the Department of Public Safety, effective July 1, 2010.

• Amends Section 77-7-16 to designate the Motor Carrier Division of the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol as the entity responsible for supervising and inspecting safe operation of motor vehicles, and enforcing Motor Carrier Regulatory Law requirements.

• Amends Section 45-3-21 to authorize the Highway Safety Patrol to enforce the Mississippi Motor Carrier Regulatory Law of 1938 and its associated rules and regulations.

• Repeals Sections 77-1-19, 77-1-21, and 77-1-27, which previously authorized the Public Service Commission and Department of Transportation to employ personnel and provide payment for enforcing motor carrier regulatory law.
