East Mississippi Community College "Lions" football team won the 2009 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Football Championship on November 7, 2009, defeating two-time defending champion Mississippi Gulf Coast 75-71.

Head Coach Buddy Stephens' team achieved an 11-1 record, establishing a new school record for wins in a season, and won the second annual Mississippi Bowl on November 15, 2009, defeating Arizona Western College 27-24.

Quarterback Randall Mackey was named 2009 NJCAA Football All-American First Team, ranked second nationally with 32 touchdown passes, and completed 3,122 passing yards in the 2009 season while winning Mississippi Bowl Committee Player of the Year.

Mackey finished his 21-game career at EMCC with 5,940 passing yards, 556 touchdowns, and 7,005 total career yards of offense while maintaining a perfect 12-0 composite record in MACJC North Division play.

The resolution commends Coach Buddy Stephens (named NJCAA Coach of the Year), Quarterback Randall Mackey, and the entire Lions football team for bringing honor to the college, community, and State of Mississippi.
