Coach Horace Lowry McCool, age 81 of Cleveland, Mississippi, died on March 23, 2010, and served as Head Football Coach at Delta State University from 1961-1973.

McCool compiled 76 wins, 48 losses, and 3 ties during his 13 seasons, with a record of 41-15 in his first six years and remains the only Delta State coach to achieve six consecutive winning seasons.

Delta State University Stadium was named in his honor on October 6, 2007, and McCool spent 25 years in the Athletic Department as a coach and administrator before serving as University Physical Plant Director.

As Athletic Director, McCool was instrumental in reinstating Delta State's women's basketball program and hiring Margaret Wade as Head Coach, resulting in three National Championships.

The Legislature mourns Coach McCool's passing and extends sympathy to his surviving family, including two sons, one daughter, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
