MS HB1293

Amends Section 97-45-19 of the Mississippi Code to add "damage to a person's identity by fraud" as an unlawful purpose for obtaining another person's personal identity information.

Maintains existing penalties: felony punishable by 2 to 15 years imprisonment or up to $10,000 fine, or both.

Allows misdemeanor conviction for violations involving less than $250, punishable by up to 6 months jail or up to $1,000 fine, or both.

Requires convicted persons to pay restitution plus legal interest in addition to any other fines or imprisonment imposed.

Takes effect July 1, 2011.
