Vehicle owners or lienholders must forward the properly endorsed certificate of title to the insurance company within 15 days after receiving total loss settlement funds.

Insurance companies may request a salvage certificate of title from the Mississippi Insurance Department if unable to obtain the original certificate within 30 days after disbursement, provided they document at least two written attempts to obtain it.

The Mississippi Insurance Department shall issue a salvage certificate of title in the name of the insurance company upon receipt of either a properly endorsed original certificate or a properly executed request meeting the requirements in subsection (2).

Vehicle owners with a salvage certificate of title may apply for a clear or branded title after restoration, subject to inspection by the Department of Public Safety and payment of a $75 fee per vehicle.

The act takes effect July 1, 2011.
