Prohibits health insurance policies from containing provisions that limit or restrict an insured's ability to assign their benefits to a licensed health care provider who provides services to them

Requires insurers to pay benefits directly to a licensed health care provider when the insured provides written direction requesting such payment arrangement

Applies to individual and group health and accident insurance policies, including experience-rated insurance contracts, indemnity contracts, self-insured plans, and self-funded plans

Declares any policy provision that restricts benefit assignment to health care providers as invalid

Effective date: July 1, 2011
