Extends the repeal date of the Hattiesburg Tourism Commission from July 1, 2012 to July 1, 2014.

Establishes a seven-member tourism commission appointed by the mayor and ratified by city council, comprising two hotel/motel industry representatives, one Chamber of Commerce or Economic Development Foundation member, one University of Southern Mississippi representative, and three at-large members.

Authorizes the city to levy up to a 2% tax on gross proceeds from overnight hotel and motel room rentals to fund commission operations, with 3% of collected taxes retained by the Department of Revenue for collection costs.

Grants the commission authority to acquire, own, operate facilities and equipment for tourism promotion, employ staff, and manage revenues from any source.

Requires city governing authorities to adopt a resolution and publish notice for at least three weeks before implementing the tax, with the option for a referendum if 20% or 1,500 qualified electors file a written petition.
