Jackson County Board of Supervisors may establish a two-year pilot program authorizing the sheriff's department to use radar speed detection equipment to enforce speed limits on county roads outside incorporated municipalities.

County may purchase or acquire up to 20 radar speed detection devices using available county funds if the pilot program is established.

Sheriff must report to the Board of Supervisors at the end of the first 12-month period (ending June 30, 2012) comparing speeding citations, serious injuries and fatal crashes, and felony arrests resulting from radar traffic stops.

A committee appointed by the Board of Supervisors and sheriff will review the statistical data and make recommendations before authorizing a second 12-month period of radar use (July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013).

All authority for radar speed detection equipment use terminates on July 1, 2013, unless extended by subsequent legislation.
