Requires municipalities to provide a predisciplinary hearing before suspending or terminating any law enforcement officer employed by the municipality.

Mandates written due process procedures including written notice of suspension/termination reasons, officer's right to appear and be represented by counsel, and officer's right to present evidence and question witnesses.

Officer must request hearing in writing within 5 days of receiving notice or the right to hearing is waived.

Hearing may be conducted in executive session if held before municipal governing body, but final adjudication must occur in open session before an impartial hearing officer or body.

Exempts municipalities that already have a civil service commission or an ordinance requiring a due process policy; effective January 1, 2012.
