Recognizes and commends the Mississippi Wing of the Civil Air Patrol for its response to the Deepwater Horizon oil well explosion in the Gulf of Mexico beginning May 3, 2010.

Civil Air Patrol volunteers flew the Mississippi coastline daily to report on oil spill conditions, boom placements, and coastal impacts, accumulating over 70 flights and 170 flight hours over four months.

Air and ground crews from six squadrons (Diamondhead, Berta Edge Composite, Singing River, Pine Belt Composite, James McKinnie Composite, and Mississippi Wing Headquarters) provided still imagery, digital video, and reconnaissance activities supporting federal and state response efforts.

Reconnaissance assisted the Department of Marine Resources and Department of Environmental Quality in assessing potential oil impacts on the coastline, barrier islands, wetlands, fishermen, and businesses.

Directs that copies of the resolution be furnished to the Mississippi Wing of the Civil Air Patrol and the Capitol Press Corps.
