Commends Dr. Doris Hamilton McGowan for more than 50 years of dedicated service to Mississippi in teacher education upon her retirement in May 2010.

Recognizes her career including 10 years as a public school teacher and over 30 years as an instructor and later professor at Alcorn State University, where she became Chairperson of the Department of Education and Psychology.

Acknowledges her educational credentials: bachelor's degree in elementary education from Alcorn A&M College (1975), master's degree from Kansas State University, and doctorate in education from Nova Southeastern University (2000).

Notes her professional achievements including being the first African-American female teacher appointed by the Missouri State Board of Education to Gladstone Elementary School in Kansas City, and receiving Outstanding Faculty Honoree recognition for Mississippi in 2001.

Directs that copies of the resolution be furnished to Dr. McGowan and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
