Authorizes courts to impose an assessment against defendants convicted of felonies investigated by the Office of the Attorney General, district attorneys, sheriffs, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and municipal police departments.

Assessment may cover all reasonable investigation costs including investigators, service of process, court reporters, expert witnesses, attorney's fees, and transportation costs.

Costs are paid to the specific governmental entity that incurred each cost item and must augment existing budgets rather than replace them.

Takes effect July 1, 2011.
