Eliminates the requirement that advanced practice registered nurses must practice within a collaborative or consultative relationship with a physician or dentist under Mississippi Code Sections 73-15-5 and 73-15-20.

Requires advanced practice registered nurses to practice within the framework of board-approved standing protocols or practice guidelines instead of physician/dentist supervision.

Allows advanced practice registered nurses (including certified nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, and nurse anesthetists) to diagnose, treat, and manage medical conditions with prescriptive authority as identified by the board.

Maintains board oversight through periodic site visits to protect public health and safety, and requires nurses to implement formal quality assurance/quality improvement programs.

Effective date is July 1, 2011.
