West Jones High School Lady Mustangs Soccer Team won the Mississippi High School Athletic Association Class 5A State Championship on February 5, 2011, defeating Ridgeland High School 3-2 in overtime.

The Lady Mustangs finished the regular season with a 17-0-5 record undefeated in their division and won playoff games against Stone County (6-0), Long Beach (1-0), Gautier (2-1), and Ridgeland (3-2).

Carly Mauldin scored the championship-winning goal in the 92nd minute of the second overtime period with an assist from Sara Coleman, with Macie Wallace scoring the tying goal in the 77th minute.

The resolution commends and congratulates Head Coach Chip Gieger, the team, coaches, parents, and sponsors for bringing honor to West Jones High School and the State of Mississippi.

The resolution directs that the recognition be presented to Coach Gieger, forwarded to West Jones Principal Lynn Lyon and the Jones County Board of Education, and distributed to the Capitol Press Corps.
