MS HB1086

Creates the Commission on College Accreditation composed of the Executive Director of the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges, the Commissioner of Higher Education (or designees), and three additional members serving three-year terms.

Grants the commission authority to prepare an approved list of community, junior, and senior colleges and universities offering postsecondary academic degrees and domiciled in Mississippi, with annual approval required to grant degrees or offer instruction.

Exempts community, junior, and senior colleges with main campuses in Mississippi that were chartered, authorized, or approved by the commission prior to July 1, 1988 from injunction provisions regarding unauthorized degree offerings.

Exempts proprietary schools and colleges regulated under Section 75-60-1 et seq. from the commission's regulatory authority.

Takes effect July 1, 2012.
