Amends Section 25-32-7 to clarify that county public defenders have authority to assign duties and supervise all office employees regardless of funding source.

Requires public defenders' offices to receive office space, secretarial assistance, and operating expenses at least equal to or greater than county prosecutors or district attorneys.

Provides that public defender compensation and expenses are paid by the county or counties acting jointly, upon board of supervisors approval.

Repeals Section 25-32-21, which contained a contingent repeal provision tied to a now-defunct statewide public defender system.

Takes effect upon passage.
