MS HB1151

Amends Section 73-22-3 of Mississippi Code to clarify that orthotist/prosthetist certification laws do not prohibit or restrict the practice of pharmacy by licensed pharmacists or pharmacy operations and employees.

Adds exemption allowing appropriately trained pharmacists and pharmacy employees under pharmacist supervision to provide therapeutic diabetic shoes and inserts without orthotist/prosthetist certification.

Defines "appropriately trained" as completion of a course covering fitting and patient management of therapeutic diabetic shoes and inserts approved by the National Commission for Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (N.C.O.P.E.) or manufacturer-offered courses.

Maintains existing exemptions for other licensed professionals (physicians, persons with 25+ years of practice before July 1, 1991) from orthotist/prosthetist certification requirements.

Takes effect July 1, 2012.
