HB 1207 Summary

• Authorizes the State Board of Education to withdraw a school district's accreditation immediately upon violation of standards designated for withdrawal without probation, after conducting a due process hearing.

• Permits parents or legal guardians of students in non-accredited districts to petition for student transfers to accredited districts, with per-pupil funding transferred monthly to the receiving district.

• Prohibits placement of school districts in conservatorship when the Governor declares a state of emergency; instead requires the State Board of Education to abolish the district and consolidate it administratively with one or more existing districts.

• Establishes the Mississippi Recovery School District under a deputy superintendent to oversee all districts under state conservatorship and appoint conservators and financial advisors.

• Effective July 1, 2012.
