Requires the Chief of Patrol of the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol to be appointed from the sworn ranks of the patrol, rather than allowing appointment from outside the organization

Amends Section 45-3-5 of the Mississippi Code of 1972 to add this new qualification requirement for the position

Chief of Patrol serves as Assistant Commissioner of Public Safety and has charge of the division of operations of the patrol

Chief of Patrol must execute a $5,000 bond with an approved surety company for faithful performance of duties

Effective date of July 1, 2012
