HB 1472 Summary

• Effective January 1, 2016, the State Personnel Board shall set salaries, compensation, mileage allowances, and expenses for state legislators, the Lieutenant Governor, President Pro Tempore of the Senate, and Speaker Pro Tempore of the House.

• Repeals existing statutory provisions (Sections 5-1-41, 5-1-43, 5-1-45, 5-1-46, 5-1-47, 5-1-51, and 5-1-55) that fixed legislative compensation effective January 1, 2016.

• Prohibits new legislators elected after January 1, 2016, and new Senate Presidents from joining the Supplemental Legislative Retirement Plan; existing members retain their plan membership.

• Effective July 1, 2015, current legislators cease earning additional creditable service in the Supplemental Legislative Retirement Plan and both employee and employer contributions to the plan are discontinued.

• Requires Attorney General to submit the act to the U.S. Department of Justice or U.S. District Court for approval under the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
