Property owners, real estate developers, neighborhood associations, and other entities controlling residential property are authorized to establish covenants prohibiting the sale or lease of such property to registered sex offenders.

Registered sex offenders are made subject to any covenant established under this authorization and the existing requirements of Mississippi Code Section 45-33-25.

No changes are made to existing sex offender registration requirements, which include reporting residence, employment, education status, vehicle information, online identities, and other specified information to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

The existing 1,500-foot residential restriction from schools, child care facilities, recreational facilities used by minors, and similar locations remains in effect, with specified exceptions for those incarcerated, committed, or who established residency prior to certain dates.

The act takes effect upon passage.
