Columbia High School earned the "Star School" designation by the Mississippi Department of Education, ranking in the top ten percent of Mississippi High Schools in 2011 and performing above the national average.

The school achieved this rating based on a Quality of Distribution Index of 204, High School Completion Index of 233, Graduation Rate of 85.50%, and meeting its Growth Status goal.

Columbia High School accomplished the Star rating while serving a diverse population that is 50% African American and 49% Caucasian, with approximately 60% of students below the poverty level and over 72% receiving free and reduced lunch.

The school has a total enrollment of 525 students and maintains a well-rounded educational program with state championships in band, baseball, cheerleading, and tennis, plus high-performing athletes in track, powerlifting, archery, and football.

The Legislature commends and congratulates Columbia High School Principal Sheila W. Burbridge and the school community for their achievement and commitment to providing quality education.
