Pearl High School Pirate Marching Band won the Class 5A Mississippi High School Activities Association State Marching Band Championship on October 29, 2011, with a performance titled "Russian Images"

The 162-member band scored 94.95 points, one full point higher than the runner-up and the highest score across all competing classes at the championship

Band director Jeff Cannon credited the championship win to the students' skills, the administration's support, and the Pearl School District's backing

Legislature commends and congratulates the marching band for bringing honor to Pearl High School, their parents, their community, and the State of Mississippi
