Recognizes Natasha Trethewey, a native of Gulfport, Mississippi, upon her appointment as Mississippi's State Poet Laureate in 2012 by former Governor Haley Barbour.

Commends Trethewey's literary achievements, including her 2007 Pulitzer Prize for her poetry collection "Native Guard" and her position as Charles Howard Candler Professor of English and Creative Writing at Emory University.

Acknowledges her published poetry collections: "Domestic Work" (2000), "Bellocq's Ophelia" (2002), "Native Guard" (2006), "Beyond Katrina" (2010), and "Thrall" (forthcoming 2012).

Notes her numerous honors and fellowships from prestigious organizations including the Guggenheim Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, and induction into the Fellowship of Southern Writers and Georgia Writers Hall of Fame.

Welcomes Trethewey to the Capitol on March 27, 2012, and directs copies of the resolution be provided to her and the Capitol Press Corps.
