MS SB2300

Amends Section 49-15-315 of Mississippi Code to allow licensed commercial oyster fishermen to harvest oysters from reefs north of the CSX bridge in the three coastal counties if approved by the Commission on Marine Resources.

Maintains the existing prohibition on commercial harvesting of crabs, shrimp, bait shrimp, and saltwater fish north of the CSX bridge, with exceptions limited to euryhaline minnow species and the newly permitted oyster harvesting.

Preserves the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory's authority to study estuaries and bays designated as nurseries and recommend establishment of additional nursery grounds as needed.

Maintains penalties for violations including misdemeanor charges, fines, and confiscation of commercial equipment used in illegal harvesting, with proceeds deposited to the Seafood Fund.

Takes effect July 1, 2012.
