Senate Bill 2385 Summary

• Establishes the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Education Fund in the State Treasury to receive $20 fees collected when courts reduce DUI/drug offense license suspension periods under Section 63-1-71, to be administered by the Department of Mental Health.

• Creates the Mississippi Trauma Care Systems Fund in the State Treasury to receive $15 from each $20 assessment and $30 from each $45 assessment under implied consent law violations, effective July 1, 2012, with funds distributed to designated trauma care regions and indigent trauma care block grants.

• Removes language requiring certain court assessment fees to be deposited into the General Fund and redirects them to specific special funds for their intended purposes.

• Requires the Department of Finance and Administration to report annually to the Speaker of the House and Lieutenant Governor on revenues and expenditures of assessments collected under Sections 49-7-21, 63-1-71, 63-9-11, 63-11-30(2)(a), 97-15-29, 97-19-67, 99-19-73, and 99-19-75, with reports due by September 15 each year.

• Takes effect July 1, 2012.
