MS SB2436

Amends Section 37-135-1 of the Mississippi Code to eliminate the requirement that Mississippi students attending the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee must return to practice in Mississippi after graduation.

The elimination applies retroactively to students who are Mississippi residents attending the Southern College of Optometry on or after January 1, 2011.

Notes that Mississippi was the only SREB (Southern Regional Education Board) participating state that imposed a mandatory return-to-practice requirement on optometry students as a condition of receiving financial assistance.

Takes effect July 1, 2012.
