Allows school districts to deduct the cost of substitute teacher compensation from the salary of a licensed employee for the first 10 days of absence due to illness that exceeds the employee's sick leave allowance.

Permits school districts to allow an alternative policy where licensed employees receive full pay for the first 10 days of absence exceeding sick leave allowance instead of having substitute costs deducted.

Requires that after the first 10 days of absence exceeding sick leave allowance, the regular pay of the absent licensed employee shall be suspended and withheld entirely for any further absences due to illness during that school year.

Maintains the existing minimum sick leave allowance of 7 days per school year for licensed employees and teacher assistants with unlimited accumulation of unused leave.

Takes effect July 1, 2012.
